Alana’s Score: 5 Cheeks!

The name says it all, really. Cheeky Cabaret is a raucous, rambunctious riot of talent and you won’t want to miss it.

Originally conceived out of the ashes of an unloved theatre in Brunswick Heads, Cheeky Cabaret made its way to Sydney Cabaret Festival via the team who brought us La Soirée and Club Swizzle, so you can rest assured they know their stuff.

This show brings together an incredible troupe of disgustingly talented performers to do what they do best – entertain. It harks back to the cabarets of yesteryear, with a variety of amazing performances and incredible skills on display. Think circus, vaudeville, comedy, cabaret and everything in between.

Rueben Kaye is in full glittery flight in this show. His banter with some heckling audience members displays his whip-crackingly clever wit, and a gorgeous rendition of ‘Down Under’ brought the house down.

There are so many incredible acts. Breath-taking contortionists, a frenetic hula hooper, a mesmerising magician and so much more. The acrobatic displays elicited true hand-over-mouth reactions.

While it doesn’t quite feel like a perfect cabaret venue, the team have worked hard to turn the university lecture style Seymour Centre into an atmospheric, dimly-lit hovel in which debaucheries may thrive.

The whole show is saucy and irresistible, unapologetically naughty and incredibly entertaining. Don’t miss.

Playing at the Seymour Centre until 14th July.
