Was very fortunate to get the opportunity to see Van Badham’s Banging Denmark on Wednesday evening. Not as a reviewer so this is not a review but just my impressions coming out of the show – or my ‘exit poll’.

A beautifully written play. Loads of laughs, intellectual wit and a banging good story. As expected there are poignant insights. In this case, messy modern relationships and a spotlight on the ‘negging’ movement. While it does exposes the callousness and self obsession of this mentality it is not just an ‘expose and attack’ it gives balance and insight into why we all are victims (sometimes willing) or perpetrators (sometimes unknowing). How we get into these messes and exploring if there is a way out. This is all wrapped up in a hilarious Rom-Com. Amber McMahon is a powerhouse. What a brilliant actor. Comic timing was impeccable and she handled the tricky dialogue at a cracking pace. This is the point when I would tell you to get a ticket but it had sold out before opening night. I understand there will be rare returned tickets available at the box office so worth investigating. A very non-STC play in a very good way.

If I was reviewing it would be a 4 and a half star-crossed lovers score.
