Here is the first of a series of interviews for the National Theatre’s touring production of War Horse coming to the Sydney Lyric Theatre in February. Our first chat is with Scott Miller plays Albert Narracott. Some of the questions were sent in by our readers, I have acknowledge them when used.

What draws you to the role of Albert?
Albert is such an iconic role in theatre and it really presents you with so much to work with as an actor. The opportunity to give my own spin on him was a huge draw.

What was the biggest struggle in bringing this character to the stage?
There’s a a very complicated part of the play when I teach Joey how to plough. It was probably the hardest part to rehearse as it has so many different elements to it. I think it took about 6 weeks of rehearsals before I felt comfortable with it.

What is the funniest craziest/funniest most interesting thing that has happened?
Someone, and I won’t name who, farted very loudly on stage at the start of act 2 and to this day it still makes me laugh.

Favourite production you’ve been involved with (apart from this one!)?
A production of ‘Three Sisters’ during drama school. I can’t really put into words why, but it holds a very strong place in my heart.

What is the most valuable piece of advice that you have been given?
‘Do what makes you happy’

Who has inspired you the most personally or professionally?
My friend Rosa. In the space of a year and a half she was diagnosed with cancer, went through chemo, got the all clear and then put on an amazing show at the Edinburgh fringe that documented her journey through it all. She’s amazing and truly inspiring.

A hobby you have beyond the theatre?
Football.

If you could send out a tweet that would reach the entire world, what would it say?
‘Social media isn’t real life’
