Press Release:

Sydney’s newest theatre company, Studio Sputnik, presents an outrageous comedy with a killer bite by acclaimed British playwright Philip Ridley. The Australian premiere of Radiant Vermin opens at the Chippen St Theatre on 29th of July for a strictly limited season.
Radiant Vermin is a satire about a young couple offered a ‘too good to be true’ way onto the property ladder. Playful, provocative, and viciously sharp, this outrageous black comedy is a meditation on how far we will go to satisfy, and justify, materialistic greed. Directed by Victor Kalka and starring Nicola Denton as Jill, Michael Becker as Ollie, and Melissa Jones as the mysterious Miss Dee.
“This play is a whip smart satire of capitalism and the ways in which we commodify or dehumanise people to serve our own agendas. It’s also a fascinating descent into madness and guilt – imagine Macbeth meets Grand Designs!” said director Victor Kalka. “Ridley is one of my favourite writers, he wields language like a weapon and in Radiant Vermin, his words are razor sharp.”
Philip Ridley is a novelist, film-maker, contemporary artist, poet and one of the UK’s most celebrated playwrights, winning Time Out, Evening StandardFringe First and Critics Circle awards for his plays. Plays include The Pitchfork  Disney, Ghost From A Perfect Place and The Fastest Clock in the Universe. Ridley has been variously described as “a visionary” (Rolling Stone), “a genius” (Time Out), “the master of modern myth” (The Guardian) and “a major literary talent” (The Independent).
Studio Sputnik was founded by actor and theatre maker Michael Becker and is committed to producing exciting new theatre.
