PRESS RELEASE: Tickets are now on sale (from 1 December) for Richard Gill Presents – A Voyage of Musical Discovery, a series of Sydney concerts that leads music lovers and students through music from the past and present  in collaboration with renowned Australian contemporary, jazz and baroque ensembles.

Three brilliant and inspiring events at the City Recital Hall bring the world of music to life before the audience’s eyes, taking an in-depth look at the most recent contemporary Australian music along with repertoire from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The three early Tuesday evening concerts, presented by legendary conductor and music educator Richard Gill AO, are companions to the orchestra’s major subscription series concerts in March, May and August: Pastoral, Classical and Poetical Melodies.

Richard Gill Presents is a great opportunity for music lovers – including students and teachers –  to listen to music performed on period instruments in an historically informed manner, together with music written or improvised for small ensembles using contemporary performance practices.

In keeping with the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra’s ambition to Inspire, Educate and Enlighten, each concert features outstanding Australian musicians across contrasting genres.

“Motivic Development” (Tues 27 March 6.30pm) presents jazz combo The World According to James together with the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra in a program that juxtaposes contemporary jazz with Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony.

“Texture & Timbre” (Tues 15 May 6.30pm) blends the ARCO Chamber Soloists with famously adventurous Ensemble Offspring as Von Winter meets Harrison, Meadowcroft and Van Reyk.

Finally on Tues 21 August at 6.30pm, “Voices & Instruments” showcases the strings of the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra with Camerata Antica and a melting pot of music by Grieg, Monteverdi, Alice Chance and Elena Kats-Chernin.

Each 90-minute program will be presented by the charismatic conductor Richard Gill (below)… in his inimitable style!

Established in 2013, the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra has become a vibrant and leading presence on the Australian music scene, providing opportunities for engagement with wide audiences through live performance in major venues as well as radio broadcasts.

The orchestra’s commitment to music education is at its core: in addition to Richard Gill Presents, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra runs the popular Young Mannheim Symphonists program – providing young musicians with expert guidance in Historically Informed Performance (HIP).
